Best Petroleum Engineering Schools in the US

Petroleum Engineering Schools

Petroleum Engineering Schools

The main job of a petroleum engineer is to specialize in the withdrawal as well as the storage of fossil fuels, and its transport. Petroleum engineers are also involved in explorations as they supervise the natural resources extraction and make sure that procedures are efficient. They also lead the design and establishment of drilling sites all over the world. Most of the time, what’s involved in petroleum engineering is detection of state-of-the-art seismic technology, using sound waves to sense possible natural resources lying below the surface of the earth. Petroleum engineering schools in the US offer bachelors’, masters’ and doctoral degrees.

Here are two of the best petroleum engineering schools in the US.

University of Texas Austin

Ranked as ninth last year, under all undergraduate education programs, the Cockrell School of Engineering of the University of Texas located in Austin also ranks second in petroleum engineering programs, in the year 2003. A student can take petroleum in undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Hydrogeology and geosystems engineering are also offered as special undergraduate petroleum engineering study areas. Moreover, the department of engineering supports students engaging in different research activities as their undergraduate project. The students are given grants and scholarships, as well as opportunities to participate in special programs, depending on the overall performance of their research project.

Their engineering initiatives are dissected into five main disciplines – sustainable energy, design innovation and manufacturing, human health care engineering, sustainable energy, space and earth engineering and the last one is sustainable and secured infrastructures.

Stanford University
Various institutions has lauded Stanford University’s Department of Engergy Resource Engineering – both students and faculty. They have gained recognitions from Chinese Academy of Sciences, and also Geological Society of America. Master sciences and doctoral programs are offered in their energy resources engineering department. However, prospective students shall enrol fifteen units a quarter and shall be proficient in physical science, mathematics and engineering. Foundations of petroleum engineering, petroleum geology, well testing and reservoir engineering are offered in this course.

So there you have it, two petroleum engineering schools you can go to if you decide this career path is for you.

I'm right and you're wrong. Live with it or get used to this society, and the Captain did violate his oath. He is not the one fully in charge. When he was hired, he had to swear to an oath and the rules and codes of conduct. He broke them, it has nothing to do with political correctness, the Navy said that these rules have been around for ever and that it wasn't political correctness but he broke the rules and he got caught and he can be easily replaced. SO suck it bitch

    Hi.

Let me tell you something, and I'm going to be totally honest with you. I really need you to hear me and take this advice. I'm not here to mess you about or beat around the bush:

YOU NEED TO FORGET ABOUT THIS GUY! He is wasting your time honey. Trust me. You quoted yourself that you feel like you're becoming someone else. Yes, it's true. Psychologically this is messing you up. You're acting in ways and doing things that aren't usually you. This guy and this situation is causing you to be a different person. Love is blind. Your love for this guy is causing you to do stupid things. You're not thinking normally. Any normal person right now would see all the red flags and run away from this guy, but you can't seem to see what this guy is doing to you.

The guy isn't ready for relationships. He has A LOT of growing to do, and you're so much better off without him. Yes, if you continue giving into him he WILL break your heart again.
Babe, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. He may have called you saying he misses you or whatever, but still, nothing has changed with this guy and it never will, until he gets help with his issues or whatever he needs help with. Be done with this guy, cut him off completely. You're talking about cutting off the sex, but you need to do a whole lot more than that dear. You need to cut him out of your life. He's no good for you. Open your eyes.

Here's what you do, you tell this guy that you don't understand the way he is doing things and you tell him that you're cutting him off. Just do it.
Another problem is you saying that "you don't have the strength to leave him". Already, this your weakness. You HAVE to have the strength. You could leave him if you wanted to, you just don't want to. Don't make an excuse. You DO have the strength and you know it. This already tells me that DEEP down you know that you're supposed to leave him, You know it, you're just procrastinating and beating around the bush here. You've got to move on and find someone better who wont treat you this way. You shouldn't be putting up with this. You are valuable and you deserve better. Everyone does.

Take a few months off from the dating scene and get back to yourself and reality again. Take time to re group your thoughts, go on holiday or something. Clear your mind and you'll start to see that everything I am saying makes perfect sense. You're more than this.

I know that you lost your virginity to him, so it makes it even harder, but just chalk it down to experience babe, okay? You will heal over time, trust me. We learn from our mistakes.

Good luck chick, and take care.

(Actually, thank *you* for pointing out so many interesting articles/thoughts in various blogs: how do you do it!?) You are correct about the US corporations owning the IP. That is definitely a weakness of current crop of Indian corporations. I was looking at it more from jobs/individual point of view.Apologies in advance for any appearance of stereotyping. Having lived in both India and US, I think the US media greatly underestimates the knowledge, capabilities and skills of the Indians (and likely the Chinese) and often writes articles with cultural biases. Indians are doing more than “call centre jobs” in India. And in the US, Indians have consistently been among the top immigrant group in terms of mean (and median) individual (and family) income (And quite likely, a lot of the R&D being done in US corporations even in the US is by Indian immigrants). But Lou Dobbs and his ilk constantly focus on “call centre jobs” being taken away by India. The law of averages is valid everywhere and among all “tribes”: it is in what direction the people put in their abilities, what is valued in a society that makes a difference. My experience also tells me:* The average student ends up learning MUCH LESS in science and math in US than in India; there are no “electives” in Indian schools. This statement is on the basis of the texts I saw in NY city public schools, and grades a very average Indian student received (mid-upper 90s) when her paernts were posted in the US.* Respect for mathematical and science talent is very high. This has to do more than just money; it is also a result of being an old civilazation, I think. Example: Recently, Michael Atiyah, a world renowned British mathematician (Steve definitely knows about him) visited some collges and universities India, and remarked that he enjoyed visiting India because he is “treated like a rock star”. * Engineering (especially computer science and electrical engineering) attracts some of the best minds of India. The students from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) are comparable to those in the best engineering schools in the US. Admission is strictly based on a very tough entrance exam; money won't get you admission. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.* School students in India are probably not as well-rounded in terms of extra-curricular activities. On the other hand, they learn more about world history. They certainly know more American history than American students known Indian history. So I think, while the opportunities available to American students are not available anywhere else, due to a combination of lack of direction and societal priorities, they don't use it.My 2 cents]]>

  48. First Decision = Last Decision 11 November 2011 at 12:13 pm #

Engineering projects have always been lumped under the heading of "science". I think the word "engineering" scares people too much. . . that and it can have negative connotations in the general public that thinks of things like genetic engineering instead of bridge-building engineering. (Or maybe that train engineer!)

I just see it as normal. Feminism has absolutely nothing to do with it. Non-engineers often seem to have no clue what engineers actually do, so it makes perfect sense to me that nobody can ever figure out what actually funding engineering projects is. Trust me. . . I've been living that in engineering grad school for years.

Politicians tend to come from law backgrounds. . . good at exactly the same areas that engineers are notorious for. Taking a guess based on that: infrastructure to a politician therefore means people-infrastructure, not stuff-infrastructure?

Yeah, good point. The Chinese and Indians are graduating an awful lot of engineers; presumably a reasonable fraction of them are petroleum engineers.Given that, what (if any) barriers do you see to them being employed by the western oil companies? Obviously there are some language and cultural barriers, but sufficient economic inducement can maybe overcome all that.Any reason why they could not be the ones to fill the manpower gap?]]>

More grim information on the “down hole” problem.
BP has confirmed that the failed blowout preventer (BOP) on its Deepwater Horizon well in the Gulf of Mexico is tilting sideways at an acute angle 12 to 15 degrees from perpendicular. Geologists and petroleum engineers are now debating the worst case scenario: growing evidence that the Macondo discovery well’s casings beneath the ocean floor have been irreversibly damaged, possibly to such an extent that it may be impossible to cap the well.]]>

    Hi,
I can guess it's a problem with your ECU computer but in order to be sure you need to go to an auto shop and ask them to plug in the OBD II connection to read if there has been any error messages from before that the ECU has registered . it might also be any of your engine sensors that's causing this to happen.

your car is a 2.5L V6 with 24 valves and this engine had recalls back . The Water Pump goes bad on this car, the Fuel Pump goes bad . it could be the reason by the way. you never know it could be a weak fuel pump if I were you ask a mechanic to temporary replace it or you can do it your self.

you can drive your car to your mechanic and park it there and come back later and have him diagnose he will check for things we can't see on here but this is a very weird problem start with the OBD II check and go from there.

    GOOD LUCK!

First of all (please dont get mad) to me it seems like you came off to easy, because you had sex before the relationship. Now he thinks he can control you (the jelousy part). He wants to be a womanizer (even though he has no game) and he feels like one when he can treat you like crap and know that youll take him back whenever he wants! Trust me I dated a guy like this. What i do now is ignore him because it wont feed his ego, even though i want to punch him in the face and other times i want to make out with him. But if you start dating someone much better, which im positive you can do!, you'll have someone who can replace him. youll also realize all the traits about that person which are better than ur ex!

Canadian experience, which so many employers insist on, quite needlessly in my view. And the role of professional bodies in refusing to acknowledge other countries' educational and professional qualifications is a disgrace especially when people were recruited in their home countries by the Canadian government and when they get here find the self regulating professions will not let them work in their field. This results in a lot of underemployment and very poor service in some sectors – especially health care and engineering, both of which are desperate for qualified people.

If you do not retire at 65 and still collect CPP, it will of course be taxed – but not “clawed back”. Moreover, CPP is a contributory scheme – so the people drawing it have paid into it so they are entitled to receive payment.

Oddly enough, I thought one of the arguments that convinced government to change was not the absolute human rights case I made, but the economic one. The younger generations, it was calculated, could not afford to support the boomers if they all stopped working once they got to 65. The pensions would not be getting enough income to support the pensioners. This is a weakness of a “pay as you go” as opposed to a funded scheme. In fact in the case of private pensions, when markets were buoyant, many companies got greedy and took payment holidays – or simply raided the pension fund for their investment needs. Not a few victims of company pension schemes have found that the promised pensions are smaller or non existent due to corporate failures.

Delaying the day when retirees start drawing pensions helps funded schemes. I have two pensions I am entitled to, but do not draw either. If I die soon I will have lost out – but if I live longer than the actuaries calculate my eventual annual payments being higher may mean I make more overall. It's a gamble, pure and simple. And as usual the odds are stacked in favour of the house.

When I was doing public consultations over the vehicle levy I found the older people the most angry. And when I sat and listened to them carefully, the biggest cause of their distress was that they had miscalculated how long they would live. In once case, a man had taken a higher rate of pension payment which would only last ten years. He did not expect to live until he was 75 – and now he was over 80 and did not have much to live on.

We do not have a lot to answer for – because we no more chose to be born than any other generation. Demographics are supposed to be a study to help us understand society not create artificial social divisions – we have enough of those already, heaven knows.

We also have not had good government, on the whole. The rise of the neoliberal right has meant governments have worked for a corporate agenda, and people have not done as well as corporations. And none of that wealth trickled down. Young people are as much victims of that system as anyone else: we all got screwed. Fighting among ourselves only strengthens the hand of those already doing far too well by exploiting our divisions.]]>

These factors all delay the arrival of oil on the market, meaning that production would not so much peak as plateau. I trust our President & the brilliant people he surrounds himself with & this bill alone amazes me as far as how much work was put into this. I am a person that sees prosperity not lack so I don't see anything that I can actually tell that is an earmark or wasteful but I trust it will be taken care of…I find it astounding that Bush was giving almost a trillion dollar surplus from Clinton & did nothing with it which cost us so much more. All of them have the same issue, but cosmic rays and other esoterica are not a part of it.

For Toyota the only known issue is pedal confusion – stepping on the gas instead of the brakes. This has been a problem for as long as I can remember (and I remember Eisenhower being President). When you hear a car suddenly rocketed forward even though the driver had his foot solidly on the brake, that is always pedal confusion… there is no mechanism to make the brakes fail and the engine to go full bore simultaneously except pressing on the wrong pedal.

For some other vehicles, notably Volvos and Fords, throttle position sensors have caused engine runaway but it is controllable by pressing the brake. My partner at work has a 2000 Explorer that did that twice to his wife (she just braked to a stop and turned the engine off a moment). Replacing the TPS fixed that nonsense. Toyota uses dual sensor TPS that will idle the engine if one of the sensors fails – that was a problem in the first generation Prius when they were using resistive sensors. The sensor was changed to Hall effect in 2003 (or was it late 2002?). Anyway, every car on the road has more powerful brakes than engine.

The whole computer glitch idea makes no sense at all. Throttle control is a small part of the job the ECU does and the idea of "throttle" is a very abstract thing in its little mind until it reaches the output drivers. I've done embedded systems programming in the past and am often amazed at what even "experts" think is possible. It is almost more likely your car is really a Transformer waiting for the signal to turn into a battle robot. Any fault that can cause a runaway throttle will show up as widespread misbehavior, most likely causing the engine to stop running altogether. Keeping the ignition firing and injecting the proper amount of fuel takes up far more of the processing time than throttle control does.

It can be just as tough to get into some of the nation’s most elite boarding schools as some top colleges–and cost just as much money. Of course, the hefty price tags attached to a boarding school education include room and board, state-of-the-art facilities and plenty of perks. We’ve rounded up the 37 most expensive boarding schools in the U.S., looking at total fees including tuition, room, board and fees, for the new school year. The majority are located in the northeast, with a huge cluster in Massachusetts. California also makes the list several times with a handful of expensive progressive academies. Note: some of these schools also accept day students, but we only considered costs for boarding students. Special needs schools were not taken into consideration for this list.

There are many "technician" level jobs that require only a B.S. Such positions exist in most areas of science, including industry, medicine, and others. Most labs where PhD's work also have technicians to handle many of the tasks that are essential, but which do not require a PhD level of education, and which would occupy an inordinate amount of the PhD's time if they had to do them all themselves.

“Asian culture of permanent small improvement and refinement”

You're absolutely right about that, and nicely explained. However, there are exceptions, Sony being one of them. Before Sony lost its collective mind and focus, it was able to transition from small refinement to fairly significant design innovation across many product lines to the point of becoming associated with engaging design in consumers' mind. Who knows, perhaps ASUS can one day get there. Samsung has been trying to do that over the last decade, without too much success despite all that PR.

But, yes, I do have a problem with two aspects of this. First the notion that disparate, disjointed, random “suggestions” can be simply “filtered” to achieve innovation. Continuous refinement, as you put it, yes, design innovation not bloody likely. My objection is the mislabel “design innovation” (in general) attached to it, as opposed to refinement.

The second part bothers me even more: that the originators of the ideas/refinements get no rights or compensation. I see that as exploitation in the name of “openness.” Now, nobody is obviously forcing anyone to contribute but the arrangement is unbalanced. It lulls the mind into thinking that design is just that simple: set up a site to collect suggestions, filter and ship it.]]>

It also demonstrates the American care free spirit! Stanford students go through the most rigorous training and thus at graduation they are free to relax and be silly. You have to see it and experience it to understand it.

  250. Bob Pooman 20 December 2011 at 7:13 pm #

here are many flaws to your argument that make creating an opinion based on your theory difficult, if not impossible. First of all anyone in the scientific community that has studied carbon dating knows it is greatly flawed. To use carbon dating, you need to assume everything is the same today as it was thousands of years ago. We know that the earth had more oxygen (about 35%) compared to the 21% of today. Dinosaurs had nostrils about the size of the horse of today. If that same dinosaur was placed in our atmosphere today, he would die of oxygen deprivation. Reptiles grow continuously until they die and so just the size of the dinosaurs given their nostril size indicates this is true. That is a fact that we can view right in front of us by examining dinosaurs remains.

We also know that light is what makes up the energy that controls our health and very DNA. Each cell has light being made, used as communication to all the other cells in the body, and stored in cells. We know this because it has been photographed and demonstrated in many experiments. We know that Einstein theorized that light energy was a constant, but was not always so. He envisioned a chamber where this could be proven, but the technology was not available in his time to prove it. Recently, the Einstein Boze chamber was created and light was actually stopped and sped up far exceeding the now accepted light speed used as constants.

Nothing today is as it was when the earth was created. Even the electromagetic force in the earth is far less than it was when it was created. Scientists have arrogantly assumed that this change is cyclic, yet no proof of the loss of this force can be proven that it ever increased. These and other assumptions are what we live with today and so much of science that is accepted is most likely completely false.

The only evidence of evolution is speciation or variation within any given species. There is absolutely NO proof that any animal evolved into a higher form, only variation such as a dog is always a dog, but many kinds of dogs do exist. This is the only observable variations on earth anyone has found. Using that fact, it is hard to imagine aliens bringing all the kinds of animals to this earth. The sheer distance between stars makes it even more difficult to imagine how beings could visit this earth, and then ask why?

All this belief in the universe being billions of years old is another myth that is being supported by way too many assumptions. There are so many stars that each person on earth could one several trillion of them. To believe all that came from nothing and from a "Big Bang" explosion is so far fetched and borders on beliefs that defy the imagination. How would trillions upon trillions of stars form from dust particles? That thought boggles the mind especially when you consider boyles gas laws and somehow believe gravity would overcome that. Yet in an effort to refute any possibility of a creator, this is the logic. That is more a religious belief than what Christians believe.

To say there is NO GOD is arrogance personified. You have to believe you know everything to believe there is no God. If you agree that you don't know everything, then who can say God isn't to be found in that part you know nothing about?

To take the view that evolution explains how we got here, how we somehow improved and have become smarter is to believe is scientific religion, nothing more. There is NO proof. There is proof that we are here and that is the only thing we know for sure.

    good luck to you

The oil rig FPSO BW Cidade de São Vicente operating thte Tupi Extended Wall Test Image: Petrobras News Agency Marcos Bueno de Moraes still recalls those tense days of drilling. Geophysicists at his firm, the Brazilian oil company Petrobras, had used a novel 3-D seismic technology to probe for oil trapped underneath the seafloor, 180 miles off the coast of southeastern Brazil. It was the mid-2000s, oil prices were just beginning to recover after dragging bottom for more than a decade, and cost cutting was still gospel in the petroleum industry. But with preliminary soundings pointing to a massive cache of crude, the corporate brass overruled the bean counters and took their biggest gamble yet: prospecting four and a half miles beneath the surface of the Atlantic. Although the potential payoff was huge, the risks were enormous too. In the wake of the BP blowout in the Gulf of Mexico, we now know just how enormous, but even then the perils of going after oil in ultradeep water were no…

So I think, while the opportunities available to American students are not available anywhere else, due to a combination of lack of direction and societal priorities, they don't use it.My 2 cents]]>

technically, there is only one "United States" but you are right in that there are several countries with translations equating. Most, however, are "the United State of…" Any country in itself can be called a state, and thus would be a United State.

I would take the advice you've been hearing with a grain of salt. There's absolutely no reason I can see that you'd want to avoid garbage collection (the "memory cleanup" in C#), especially if you're learning for learning's sake. The actual features of the language are nowhere near as important as what tools, libraries, and community there are around the language, except that some of the boilerplate in Java, etc. make it hard to get started in the very, very beginning.

Honestly, I would look at Python first, but I'm a Python fanboy. Failing that, I'd try C#. But in the end, it probably doesn't matter too much what you learn first.

    For a withering critique, see:

    • Barry Brook, Critique of ‘A path to sustainable energy by 2030′.

The author of the article you cite admits that we'll need to work wonders:

    Innovations in nanotechnology and
    other advances in materials science
would make it possible to transform our
vision of plentiful, low-cost energy into a
    reality. By developing new technologies,
    marshaling the excellent resources of
    organizations like the Materials Research
Society, and developing the talents of a
new generation of scientists and engineers,
I believe that we can solve even
    our most critical energy problems.

Our job — yes, us, here! — is to figure out what we can actually do.]]>

Chicken came first dude: a protein called OC-17 ovocledidin converts calcium carbonate. OC-17 clamps its molecular fingers onto a microscopic particle of calcium carbonate That creates a nucleus, from which the calcium carbonate can crystallize. When the particle nucleus gets big enough, OC-17 can no longer hold onto it. The molecule's fingers detach, leaving it free to grab onto another nucleus and repeat the process. The chain reaction continues until the eggshell has formed. NOW YOUR EDUCATED

Gee, what a shock that a black man would kill such “upstanding” white cops. 375. 28 January 2012 at 1:43 am #

Try talking to your parents and telling them how you feel about the way they treat you compared to your sister. Maybe your parents aren`t trying to play favorites. But , if talking to them doesn`t work , then just forget about your sister and live your life , without your parents attention. When you end up doing something amazing, and your parents and sister miss it because their wrapped up in their own lives , it`ll be their loss, not yours. But, if them not really caring about you is a problem , and they don`t wanna hear anything about it, then try expressing how you feel about it with your friends, or a really close realitve. Or just do what I do in situations like this. Write (:
If your parents don`t really think much of you, then take out all your anger and sadness out on paper. Or since you said you liked knitting and sewing and artsy stuff , grab your sewing machine, and everything you need for a certain activity like that and just lock yourself in your room and express yourself. Hope this helps! (:

don't think Obama has that thinking. we saw that product recalls has been raging in the headlines in the previous years and Pres. Obama think of a way to alleviate this kind of problem. he saw that the healthcare industry in canada and Uk are far off ahead of the US. well lets look at the other angle of the story, we know that filing a lawsuit over a large company is a difficult thing. Obama sees this kind of problem so passed a bill concerning lawyers. but there are many lawyers who wont charge you a penny unless the claim has been in victory. I know we couldn't understand or its hard for us to understand some aspect of the story, but the point is, there is always a way to resolve the issue.

You are on the right track. Do various web searches with "rating", "compare" "review" and similar terms. Look at the Wiki pages, school websites, etc. You should also have books in the library at school comparing universities, and spend a few quid to get informal guides in bookstores. Also check with guidance councellor for reference books, they should have some.

Three world class universities in Scotland are:
University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Univesity of St Andrews

These will be very competitive to get into.

I'm certainly no expert on this topic, but from what I understand, this is far from a "case closed" situation. I mean, we don't even know what dark matter and dark energy are yet, and we still can't get general relativity and quantum mechanics to play nice together. And besides that, there are other hypotheses out there that have not been ruled out, and that imply an outside cause to the big bang, such as brane collision.

You can prepare for the IGCSE exams without needing the help of a college or school. That bit is right. You would not take the exams via AQA though. AQA does not set exams for IGCSE. IGCSEs are examined by Edexcel and Cambridge.

    Edexcel IGCSE:
    Cambridge IGCSE:

You decide whose courses you want to follow and then, when you're ready to take the exams, you organise for yourself to go to an exam centre (usually at a school or college) and write the exams.

If you chose to do Edexcel IGCSEs, you study the Edexcel syllabuses, take the Edexcel exams at an Edexcel exam centre, have your papers marked by Edexcel, and receive your IGCSE qualifications from Edexcel. You would not study with one exam board (Edexcel or Cambridge) and then take the exams of another board (AQA).

(AQA is just another exam board in the same way as Edexcel is an exam board and Cambridge is an exam board. AQA does not do IGCSEs.)

PS You might also want to look at taking either A Levels or Pre-Us.

They, not IGCSEs, are the UK's school leaving qualifications. IGCSEs are taken by 16 year olds at the end of the compulsory schooling period but A Levels or Pre-Us are the exams taken by 18 yr olds to get into higher education (university, American college etc), http://www.cie.org.uk/qualifications/academic/uppersec/preu

There are many flaws to your argument that make creating an opinion based on your theory difficult, if not impossible.

I can definitely answer this! I helped one of my closest friends get into Waterloo's Accounting program.
Waterloo (or UW) is a very prestigious school, so you'll obviously need an above 80% average. That is true for EVERY program there – unless you want to go into the Arts. If you're getting low 70s, don't even bother, you won't get in.

Scroll to the bottom of this link, it has the admission requirements for engineering:

Besides an 80%+ average, you'll need outstanding extracurricular involvement. My friend had to fill out 3 pages of questions which asked her about where she worked, where she volunteered, and what she learned from all of that.

Then, I'm pretty sure every program has an entrance exam that you MUST pass. Its based on English; they want to make sure that the students in EVERY program have decent English language competency. If you don't pass that, they'll revoke/postpone your offer.

I hope I'm not scaring you or anything because it really is a great school.
    Good luck!!

I don't think you have to worry about a disappearing job market in the near future. We're not going to quit using petroleum any time soon. Renewables can't meet the bulk of energy demands. They're not even close. Petroleum engineers are also among the highest paid in the engineering industry.

However, when put against other engineering fields, petroleum engineers have the one of the higher on-site death rates. Careful.

Don't go to Texas State unless you want to party all the time and eventually drop out. That school is only a party school. Go to Baylor and get you a really good education, it might be more expensive, however it will prepare you for your MCAT which will really benefit you.

I think it's kind of neat, if sometimes bizarre, how many applications of (geo)chemistry to archaeology have been developing.

    Dear Kevin,

I agree with you 100%. These for-profit schools not only make Big Bucks but apparently they'll give passing grades to virtually all their students even if they do minimal (or no) studying to make passing grades. The government should not grant federal loans for non-accredited colleges, nor should banks be willing to make loans for this purpose.

Perhaps part of the problem lies in the fact that student loans are given out by the federal government while accreditation of schools is up to state governments–but that doesn't sound like an impossible barrier for law-makers to overcome.

'Student loans for worthless colleges' mimics our current home loan crisis, which came about because banks knowingly were granting large loans and mortgages to people who couldn't possibly afford to pay them back. But it's even worse with student loans because, unlike with home loans, a person can never declare bankruptcy over a student loan and thus at least get a fresh start in life. Student loans are forever.

At least the media is beginning to bring some of the truth to light, although the amount to date is feeble. I hope that high school teachers, at least, are informing students of the risks of attending "non-accredited" schools.
