Here is what the rankings say;
I would say the best are:
1. University of Michigan
2. University of Virginia
3. University of Illinois at Urbana
4. University of Washington
5. University of Maryland
Those are definitely the 5 best in order and they are fantastic schools.
The next 2 best schools are University of Minnesota then Virginia Tech, which are good schools too.
After those two come Iowa State then Washington State, and they are both decent schools.
The worst school is probably Kansas State. It is definitely ranked a lot lower then the rest of the schools.
Good Luck!

1. Getting a research internship is good for getting into medical school. If you publish something significant and you played a major role in planning the experiments, that would help you even more. Ask questions, be creative, try to learn as much about you research subject as you can, and also learn about research in general. Get to know the person(s) who supervise you work very well. You will need to get an excellent letter of recommendation from this person. It is more important that the person know you well than that the person is well known in the research community, but the latter is not unimportant.
2. The elite medical schools generally want their students to come from many different undergraduate college. Last year students from 74 different colleges started at Harvard Med. Make sure you meet their admission requirements. See their web sites for details. Talk to a pre-med advisor at UIC or UIUC.
3. Consider Biomedical engineering since the subject matter is a better overlap for pre-med coursework. There's a demand for biomedical engineers too. Research a field carefully (talk to people currently in the field) before making you career decision.
4. Engineering is considered a risky major for pre-meds because engineering is difficult and pre-meds need to get as close to a 4.0 as possible.

I would suggest that you get into the habit of using correct grammar, English, and punctuation etc. at all times. I can tell that you know how to do so but that you don't always take the time or effort. You are less likely to make a mistake on the writing portion of the MCAT if you write well habitually. The writing section may be dropped in a few years, but maybe not until after you take it.
Reprehensible in the extreme. This kind of thing is seen all over the world, but one would imagine that the Jews, having experienced racial prejudice and hatred for two thousand years plus, culminating in the Holocaust, would be aware of breeding and encouraging exactly the mentality that they suffer from and rage against. I despair of humanity sometimes!

First, Engineering is applied physics, it is math intensive. Many engineers are very creative, but you can do plenty in the engineering field without being creative. There are many specialties in the field, nuclear, chemical, civil. electricity, mechanical, industrial, and aerospace. I am an electrical engineer but I am also probably could have been a mechanical engineer. Does working with nuclear reactors, chemicals, designing building and other structures, working with power ,robotics, or electronic devices, mechanical mechanisms, or airplanes interest you?
Engineering is a vast field with incredible opportunities.
Check out Total Tech HVAC Training. I have heard a lot of good things about Total Tech and it is much faster to complete. I went to Miller Motte and do not in any way endorse that school. Ask around at your local supply houses they can likely point you in the right direction. I have a link to total tech website below.
If it weren't for the scholarship, this would be an easy decision. NC State has a much better engineering program. UNC-C isn't that much of a commuter school, 75% of freshmen live on campus and 25% of all undergrads do, compared to 77/32% at NCSU (though those numbers don't reflect the proportion who live off, but near campus compared to those who live farther away). The big difference in college spirit will be in the sports teams. UNC-C won't have a football program until next year. And they're not in a very competitive conference, competing mainly with private colleges.
What it would probably come down to is whether you're getting any aid from NCSU and whether you'd be willing to work your way through college or take out more loans to go to a better school.

To go to college or follow your dreams — the all american question, isn't it?
I think your plan sounds great. I know that I was kind of in the same position a couple of months ago — I really like acting and I thought getting a degree would hinder that because youth is so important in the acting industry. However, I never really considered the option of not going to college because I did realize that getting an education is something that has always made sense to me. It will help you in so many ways, even if you eventually do decide to venture out into the acting field.
A few months into college, I am in one of the acting groups on campus and am loving it. I am not sure I still want to try out a career in acting, but hey! I'm working on a degree toward chemical engineering and possibly electrical engineering. This means that if all else falls through, at least I won't go hungry. I do plan on participating in more acting classes and exploring this interest further. From what you have written, I am sure that this would be a good idea for you, too.
It seems like you've really been looking at all your options and thinking about all this very carefully, which is GREAT. It is great because you are not rebelling just for the sake of rebelling. I suppose the question now is — what do you really want? Remember that there are millions of people who are looking into the acting field, and millions who don't make it every year — what will make you stand out? It also kind of depends on the kind of person you are. How much would your family be able to support you if your career in acting didn't turn out the way you wanted it to? Are you the kind of person who would be able to like a minimalist life? (I know I wouldn't — it's just not the way I am). Here I'll just reiterate a piece of advice my mom gave me — following your dreams is like making a financial investment — do you think you could afford it if you lose? If you think you can then by all means go for it.
That being said, I think your plan is the perfect combination of getting something tangible and doing what you like. Good luck and hope you make the right decision for yourself!
