Your Questions About Petroleum Engineering Schools

Joseph asks…
What should I do with my life?Job?College?
I am 16.
I need some help. With schooling, college, I am a hs senior and need to start thinking about majors.
I am interested in making guns for the police force, and joining the SWAT team, like making bullet proof vests, or m16s and testing them. What is a major for that? And job?
I also would like to work on cars. And would like to do something like be a psychiatrist or petroleum engineer.
Basically what I am trying to say, is that I have way to much on my plate, what can I major in and think about for careers?
Is there a way to double major?triple even? go to med and grad school?
I was thinking, major in mech engineer for the weapons building and testing and petroleum, and automotive engineer for cars.. Then going to med school for psychiatry/ Going to CAL POLY.
Lol, this probably sounds like the stupdiest and most ridiculous thing but i need help
Brad Perry answers:
You are going to have to figure out what your priorities are. What do you want to do for the rest of your life? Do you want to become a doctor, or some type of engineer. If medical school is the route you want to take, mechanical engineering would be an unnecessary degree. You have the option of obtaining an engineering degree, but you would need to take all of the pre-medicine prerequisites(Biology, Chemistry, etc…) So if your passion is in engineering, but you still have an interest in medicine, you should get a bachelor degree in engineering with a pre-medicine emphasis.
You can have a double major, but it generally takes longer than four years to get. There are a few exceptions to this. For example, my college offeres a Physics degree, but the astrophysics degree is almost identical. So most people get a double major in that. Call your college and ask if they have anything similar for engineering programs.
By the way, I am impressed that you are only sixteen and a senior in high school. I started college when I was sixteen so I can relate. If you need any more information or tips feel free to email me. Hope I helped and good luck!

You've asked this question so many time it's obvious you're just fishing for compliments and sympathy.
You need to come to terms with the fact that you screwed up in High School so bad it's unlikely you'll ever recover. The "top universities" are out of reach. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
Be happy if you get out of Community College with a AA in nose-picking. If you're really good at picking your nose, you can complete a Bachelor's at University of Phoenix.
People would be a lot more sympathetic if you just asked how to get a decent education, instead of asking a dozen times how to get into Harvard.
Mech Engineer Career advice please!. Started career with 9-month contract. Economy tanked in 2008. Took barely related job for the travel and now looking to get back 2 years later. –
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rae Bareli
University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun
Both Institutes are good but you must visit campuses of both and interact with present students there before taking your decision.

That assumes there's something that could be done that isn't, someone who has answers that aren't being listened to. I don't see it. I saw a post at TPM by a petroleum engineer who said the only thing that s/he would have done differently is that “top kill” would have been the first move. The only difference I could imagine would be Carville defending the same actions he's screeching about now.]]>
Solar panels make energy so slowly that your idea won't work well. I believe you need to get into "the numbers" yourself. You don't need to be a licensed engineer. "Build your own Electric Vehicle", a book by Seth Leitman and Bob Brant, 2009, is very readable even as it goes through many of the numbers you need. It doesn't cover solar well so you'll have to find a simple source describing how much power you're really going to get.
What I found, when I looked at the idea of solar cars, was that a normal weight/size car was going to require 10,000 watts at normal speeds. Drive it for an hour and that 10,000 "watt-hours" or "10 kilowatt hours". Cars aren't very big and the solar panels of that size will take a few days to replenish what you just expended. I discussed my disappointment on this with my cousin who's been involved with the MIT solar car; he said "put the panels on your house"!
BTW, the MIT solar car is far from normal in many respects. The typical american driver wouldn't even consider it a car. The MIT students are given cutting edge components by companies which want to help MIT. There's no drive to make something remotely cost effective.
You're not alone in your desires to find alternatives to gas-powered cars. Check out the EAA (www.eeaev.org), a group of people who convert 'normal' cars to electric; they certainly 'know the numbers'.
Your idea of having 2 motors has been proposed by some. And the new EVs (Electric Vehicles) are designed with "direct drive" where a lot of the traditional gear train is omitted.
As for the few answers, realize that your question carried a lot of reading requests; many people probably didn't want to spend the time to look at it all.

could u kindly go pick up my coursework from the engineering school on first floor? Please ☺
Overheard, from a Mech. Engineer: "We often go to Texas to blow things up, because dynamite is legal and easy to get there." Good to know.

You can call the police, or get a restraining order. I wouldnt want that lady near your daughter or son. She might try to hurt him her. Or maybe you can send her to councaling or ask her how old was she when she had her baby?
Is this a joke? If not then you are in the wrong section.
My father gave me the one piece of advice I try to live by. Do what makes you happy.
Not sure, maybe you don,t ask the right Q….who knows ?
