Will I find a job in Petroleum Engineering?
I know a lot of Petroleum engineers are about to retire so there will be more openings, but there is not a lot of expected employment growth. When I graduate in three years, do you think I will be able to find a job in petroleum engineering. Percent wise, what are my chances?

It depends on several different things.
1. The area that you are looking at applying– location has a lot to do with employment
2. How well you do in school- three years is a long time and you haven’t gotten through the hardest part
3. If you have done or will do an internship or co-op with a firm or company
4. Other things that you put on your resume to build your marketability to companies
There will be jobs available when you graduate, we are not going to get off oil anytime soon and oil is not the only things that Petroleum Engineers can do.
Short Answer is Yes you will find a job.

i just got accepted letter from tamu petroleum engineering department,the top petroleum engineering around. i know it has great pay but the whole industray is declining and i still have four years at college till i can work. i m wondering is this really worth a shot?what if the whole thing run out or collapse when i’m in middle age.some one please help me
but i aware that usa oil/gas resources are about to exhausted.same as other countries.i don’t think the whole thing can last to 2040′ or 50′ . more and more kid are selecting this as their major,thus competation will certainly get intensive. i mean,if your major is computer enginer ,it s fine,cuz computers will be here like forever.but this petroleum s really make me hesitate

Yes, Computer Science is considered an Engineering degree. The way I look at it (to put in a simple, pop way) is if I see the guys working on the Science Network to create Robots for competition (i.e. Robocar, or those Robot War shows), then they're an engineer. An IT, and a CIS graduate generally upkeeps a system for a business. A CS grad programs. (to get one of those robots into competition you need Robotics Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Computer Scientists)
Chemical engineering is your best bet. The work is steadier than in petroleum engineering and higher paid than in mechanical engineering.
Dentistry is good. Most dentists earn a bit more than most chemical engineers, but both earn well over $100,000 by the time they are a few years out of school. However, dentistry takes four years of expensive dental school, or three if you go to one of the few schools which hold classes year round. Admission to dental school is also very competitive.
You can start in chemical engineering with a bachelor's degree and if you want to earn a master's degree, you may find a program which will give you a tuition waiver and a teaching assistantship to pay your living expenses.
